Radu participated in the company’s play development process for series The 20-Year Project, and helped design and implement Cornerstone’s first participatory educational residency, 3/7/11. He will also have the opportunity to attend rehearsals and opening performances of Manzanar and to take part in brainstorming sessions to identify the company’s next cycle of plays. He met with local theatre artists, including Luis Alfaro, and conferred with them about future productions and projects.

Alexandru worked with the theater faculty in the classroom, the rehearsal space, and the workshop. He had the opportunity to take part in rehearsals and production meetings for the two plays OSU staged in the fall—Sam Shepherd one-acts and The Rocky Horror Show. He was invited to attend master classes and to share, in a public lecture format, his expertise with graduate classes on avant-garde, and Romanian theater. Alexandru had access to OSU’s Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design and the Lee Theater Research Institute. He met with staff at the Wexner Center, the Red Herring Theatre Ensemble, and with local artists.

Kremena Dimitrova worked in marketing, artist services, including participation in the Arts Management Lab, and development, with a focus on preparation for DTW’s 40th Anniversary event. She work closely with the Associate Producer on day-to-day production activity, and had many opportunities to work directly with the performing artists scheduled for the residency period.

Lidija participated in events at IWP including readings, translation workshops, panels, and field trips. She spent four productive days in Chicago attending the Chicago Humanities Festival, serving as a popular member on a panel of IWP writers, and participating in an event at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Center for Research on Women and Gender.

Milan attended multiple readings, weekly meetings of the artistic staff, usual suspect events and performances currently in production. NYTW also arranged meetings with artists from their extended community of other area theater companies, notably with NYU Experimental Theater Department where he developed plans for further collaborative projects.

Dagmara had the opportunity to see how PSC prepares for different types of performances from both a front-of-house and a back-stage perspective. She participated in production, budgeting and development events and meetings, and in the activities of the Idea Center, a new arts and education facility that includes public radio and television stations and a theater. PSC arranged visits and meetings with other cultural institutions in the area, notably Cleveland Public Theater.

During her residency, Tina Gverovic was given access to computer editing programs and classes. She developed new work that was mounted in the Center’s exhibition space, gave a public lecture, and she met with artists of all disciplines.

Jazz Center of New York has presented some of the greatest jazz artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach and George Coleman, as well as relatively unknown younger performers. It also provides technical services for musicians, and hosts workshops and jam sessions led by master musicians such as Billy Harper. Ms. Narita, the program administrator, is also President Emerita of International Women in Jazz where Ms. Jovecivic had the opportunity to meet with staff and members. Jasna had the opportunity to participate in open mic and jam sessions with musicians from many countries, and she performed in at a concert together with Billy Harper and others. She was introduced to other musicians and jazz organizations including Dizzy’s Club Coca-cola and the Blue Note. She had access to the performance space with top-of-the-line equipment including a Yamaha grand piano and used it to record a CD. She met with artists of all disciplines and plans to continue to collaborate with them.

During her residency, Mojca worked closely with the Executive Director to learn about the daily operations of a presenting organization. She helped with the ongoing marketing and presentation activities of Danspace Project’s fall season and worked with the development staff to understand the mechanisms of private support. Meetings were arranged with directors of other cultural organizations in New York City including Dance Theater Workshop, the 92nd Street Y, and The Joyce Theater.

During her residency, Olga was introduced to local choreographers and intermedia visual artists and was invited to participate in a multi-media event for the opening of the arts and technology festival of CAL(IT)2. She had an opportunity to meet University of California/San Diego professors and students and to attend lectures in the Visual Art, Theater, and Dance Departments. She also had access to the state-of-the-art technical equipment and resources of the UCSD CAL(IT)2 center, including an audio/video lab and new media arts spaces for research, production, exhibition and performance. A visit to the REDCAT Theater and Cornerstone Theater in Los Angeles was arranged for an opportunity to exchange with the Los Angeles community as well.

Dedicated to organizing dance events that provide constructive opportunities for learning and for building relationships, Link Vostok has arranged for more than four hundred dance artists from the U.S. and Europe to be part of the biennial International Festivals of Movement and Dance on the Volga, Yaroslavl, Russia. Marta had the opportunity to meet, work, and study with members of local dance companies and schools including Zenon Dance, the Hennepin Center, The University of Minnesota Dance Department, and The Center for Performing Arts. She also participated in Link Vostok’s Central European Dance Exchange Project, in which twenty-five foreign artists performed, and taught workshops in Minneapolis.

At David Dorfman Dance Founded in 1985, David Dorfman Dance has performed extensively throughout North and South America, Great Britain and Europe. David Dorfman is the recipient of a 2005 Guggenheim Foundation fellowship and has also received four fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, three New York Foundation for the Arts fellowships, and numerous other awards. Marta had the opportunity to attend morning classes taught by David Dorfman and other Connecticut College faculty members, as well as rehearsals, debriefings and collaborative meetings. She also visited The Algonquin Theater in Manasquan, New Jersey, where David Dorfman Dance is the company in residence, and Art Sweats Inc., the company office in New York City. She had full access to the studios, theater, media lab and library at Connecticut College and made many contacts for further collaboration.

Washington Performing Arts Society, a former ArtsLink grantee, placed their Fellow within the development department, where she gained an understanding of not-for-profit structures in the US. In addition, she attended classes at the Foundation Center and attended numerous concerts and recitals where she met with artists for possible inclusion in programs presented by her organization.

During the residency, Jiri worked with staff to plan several art exhibitions and film screenings for the Czech Center and will be introduced to other cultural centers and the cultural attaches of several consulate generals as well as to other cultural organizations with whom the Center works.

The Ohio State University Department of Dance features a theatre, six studios, dressing rooms, costume and production shops, and the largest collection of dance scores in any university library. Recent visiting artists have included Trisha Brown Dance Company, Twyla Tharp, and Sanka Juku. Olga used the studio space and technology and had access to all courses and choreographers in the OSU Department of Dance as well as to choreographer-in-residence Larry Keigwin and Bill T. Jones who were in residence at the Wexner Center. OSU arranged a visit to Cleveland to speak with choreographer Bebe Miller and to see her new work. Olga was introduced to other community dance organizations and dance education sites including Dennison University, the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Dance, the OSU Advanced Center for Computing Art and Design, and BalletMet. OSU and Zitluhina will continue to collaborate, and have plans to visit Latvia in the near future.
