Program Goals and Priorities

FACE Croatia is designed to provide grants to support the broadening of public awareness of and appreciation for Croatian art and culture.
Established by the Heathcote Art Foundation on January 11, 2000 to commemorate the birthday of its founder, Josephine Mercy Heathcote, FACE Croatia supports select arts and culture projects in Croatia and fosters the exchange of professional contemporary artists between Croatia and the United States.

The Role of the Heathcote Art Foundation

The Heathcote Art Foundation, is a private grant-giving foundation established in New York in 1964 which supports arts organizations that assist emerging artists of promise and those which promote the creation of new and innovative work across a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines. Heathcote has made a commitment to support FACE Croatia on an ongoing basis. FACE Croatia grants funded by Heathcote will reflect the foundation’s central mission to support emerging artists in the creation of their work and will be restricted geographically to individual professional artists and eligible organizations in Croatia, and New York-based arts organizations in the United States.

The Role of CEC ArtsLink

CEC ArtsLink advocates and supports transnational cultural mobility and collaboration, empowering artists and arts leaders to engage communities in dialogue and creative projects for a more equitable, compassionate, and sustainable world. We resolutely embrace inclusivity, independent expression, human rights, and the development of civil societies. FACE Croatia is a welcome addition to CEC ArtsLink’s portfolio of international arts funding activities.

Croatian Arts and Culture Projects Grants

Applicant Eligibility

Any professional artist active in visual arts, music, dance, performance art or theatre is eligible to apply
Croatian arts organizations that qualify as a charity under Croatian law are eligible to apply (museums, galleries, theaters, etc.)
Croatian based non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) engaged in arts and culture activity in Croatia are eligible to apply

The program is open to any arts discipline and/or cultural activity.

Support for individual artists will be restricted to support for the creation and production of new work and will not include support for travel or accommodation abroad.

US / Croatian Cultural Exchange Grants

Applicant Eligibility

Any Croatian individual artist or organization meeting the eligibility requirements listed above may apply
Any US based individual artist or non-profit arts organization may apply
The program is restricted to professional artists and/or arts administrators and does not include education initiatives for students
Croatian artists permanently residing in the United States will be considered US citizens for purposes of this program

Application Process for Both Funding Categories

Project proposals will be reviewed by an advisory committee on a quarterly basis at the end of January, April, July and October each year.

Proposals will be accepted in two phases.

Phase 1: please submit

A letter of interest (LOI) with a brief project narrative (max one page)
Project budget (max one page)
Individual artists must also submit a CV (max two pages) and up to three work samples

Phase 2: if the letter of interest is favorably reviewed, applicants will be requested to submit the following additional information prior to a final decision:

Organizational background and budget, if applicable
Evidence of non-profit status, if applicable
Two letters of recommendation from professionals in the field
