Jessica Segall, USA, Art Prospect Residency Fellow 2022. Film still from Human Energy. During her Residency at Salaam Cinema in Azerbaijan, Jessica focused on our addictive and intimate relationship with oil. Azerbaijan, one of the most prolific oil producing countries, has a unique culture of using crude oil as a medicinal bath and salve. The film considers oil’s toxic legacy as well as its materiality as a medical salve.

During her Residency at Art East in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Annie researched the city landfill, “delving into memories and stories of items discarded to re-contextualize what disintegrates into our air and is then absorbed into our lungs and moves with us in our bodies.”
Farrah Karapetian, USA, Art Prospect Residency Fellow 2021, prepares the installation of the multimedia project “You don’t believe me…”. During her Residency at The Ilkhom Centre for Contemporary Arts in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Farrah researched cotton harvest traditions, collaborated with local people to represent their experiences of picking cotton, and created new artwork.

Each dotted location on the map was planted and seeded with native milkweed to create a system of support for migrating monarch butterflies, mitigating adverse effects of genetic modification of milkweed.
