Samwel Japhet is a dancer and choreographer from Tanzania. His artistic journey started at the Makini Organization, a centre for streets children in Dar es Salaam, where he trained in traditional and modern dance as well as theatre, and where had his very first live performance experiences. A few years later, he graduated in contemporary and Tanzanian traditional dances at the MuDa Africa Dance School.
He is also a founding member and artistic director of the Nantea Dance Company and is also co-managing the Contemporary Dance Night, a platform for young Tanzanian and African contemporary dance artists in Tanzania. In 2020, he was selected to be part of a dance exchange programme between P.A.R.T.S and the Ecole des sables in Senegal where he met Faustin Linyekula.
