Dmitry Zavilgelskiy was born in Moscow in 1973. He graduated from the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1986 with a degree in Biology. In 1998 he completed coursework for script writers and directors at the Leonid Gurevich Workshop for Makers of Documentary Films. Shortly after, he began to complete projects as a director for different cinema studios and television stations in Russia. He is a recipient of several prizes at international film festivals including the “Cinema du Reel” (Paris, Best Short Film); “Cinema Huesca” (Spain, Special Jury Prize); “Message to Man” (Russia, Prize from the V. Astafyov Fund) and many others. His film The Edge of Being has been acquired by the Museum of Contemporary Art (The Pompidou Centre) in Paris. He is a member of the RF Cinematography Union and a the Guild of Directors of Real-Life Cinema.
