Mikhail Sinev, born in Moscow in 1975, graduated from the Moscow Technical University with a major in Electronic Engineering. While he was still a student, he began working as programming manager at the Russian performing arts festival, Golden Mask. In 2002 he was named executive director of the festival. From 2002 to 2005, Sinev also worked as a director of the New Drama Festival and The Moscow EasterFestival (a music festival founded by Valery Gergiev). In 2005, Sinev founded the first festival of “actual” (documentary) films, Kinoteatr.doc and devoted all his time to the event’s production. He also began to produce documentary films himself. In 2006, together with Russian screenwriter Alexander Mindadze, Sinev founded Passazhir (Passenger) Film Studio, where he recently finished shooting and editing the full-length narrative film Breakaway.
