Alisa Khmelnitskaya was born in 1970 in St. Petersburg. She received a degree in film studies from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography and worked as a journalist and film department editor for the trade publication Screen and Stage. In 2004 she wrote the script for Nine Months, a popular television series that ran on Channel One in Russia and was subsequently broadcast in almost all the other CIS countries. In 2008 Khmelnitskaya received a master’s degree from Moscow’s Higher Courses of Screenwriting and Directing. Her short film Boulevard won the special jury prize at the 2008 Beginning (“Nachalo”) Student Film Festival in St. Petersburg, and was in the short film competition program at the 2008 Kinotavr Film Festival. Khmelnitskaya currently works as chief editor at VVP Alliance studio and is wrapping up production on her first feature film, Without Men.
