Roman Karimov was born in 1984 in Ufa. He began his professional career as an accountant, moonlighting as a DJ by night. After realizing that he wasn’t cut out for the corporate world, Roman began to compose music for short films and then direct his own, which won several prizes at local film festivals. He spent several years directing commercials and music videos in Ufa before moving to Moscow in 2008 to be closer to the film industry. In 2009, he directed the documentary Profession: Comedian and began work on his first feature film, Inadequate People. In addition to writing the script and directing, Roman also edited the film and composed the score. Inadequate People went on to win five prizes at the Window to Europe Film Festival in Vyborg, Russia, including the Grand Prix, and is scheduled for a theatrical release in Russia in January 2011. Roman is currently working on his second feature, a black comedy titled Shattered.
