Valeria Ivanovskaya is a film director working in St. Petersburg. She graduated from the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy in 2004 with a degree in Television and Video Film Directing. In 2007 she went on to earn a masters degree in film direction from the prestigious Gerasimov All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow. In her youth, she also studied as an actress.She joined the Film Directors Guild of Russia in April, 2007.

Ivanovskaya has directed eight films (including artistic shorts and commercial projects for television) since 2004. Her short film The Heart is not a Stone (2004) won a special prize for Best Stylistic Decisions at the 2005 Nachalo (Beginning) Film Festival in St. Petersburg. She recently directed, co-authored, and wrote lyrics for What is the Year… (Kotorii god…, 2007), a musical film for children produced by MosFilm Studios. Ivanovskaya’s film was screened in New York in 2008 as part of her participation in the Open World Leaders Program. Andrei Gerasimov, President of the Higher Academy for Screenwriting and Directing in Moscow, writes of Ivanovskaya, “Her works are distinguished first and foremost by their exact stylistic approach and interest in the development of film language, which is rare in Russian film and is undoubtedly her achievement.”
