Yuri Bykov was born in a blue-collar family in the small town of Novomichurinsk in 1981. He studied acting at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), and performed at various Moscow theatres after graduating in 2005. A year later, Bykov began directing short films and writing screenplays. In 2009 his short film The Boss, in which he also plays the lead role, won first prize in the Short Film Competition at the Kinotavr Film Festival, and was screened at the Interfest 25th International Short Film Festival (Berlin). At present Bykov works as a film actor, screenwriter, and director, and is also the head of the Mnogotochie Film Studio. He is working on a feature film based on his own screenplay, which will be released by Rock Films, the independent film studio founded by filmmaker Aleksei Uchitel.
