Maria Samsonova is a Saint Petersburg based choreographer, dancer, and teacher.  Born in 1980, she began dancing with the Cannon Dance Studio when she was 15.  She graduated from the St. Petersburg State Technological Institute in 2003, and danced as a member of the Improve Dance Company.  In 2006, she founded the OKNO Dance Project, and in 2007, co-organized the first annual OKNO Dance Festival.  As part of the 2008 iteration of the festival, she performed in and co-choreographed a collaborative new work, Van Gogh Mind, and in 2009, her piece Dreams was performed.  She has studied in Amsterdam with Anuk van Dyke, The Henny Jurriens School, and Dance Works Rotterdam. She has taken master classes with the David Dorfman Dance Company (USA), MOMIX (USA), NDT (the Netherlands), and Wee Dance Company (Berlin).  She teaches yoga and Pilates for adults, and is an instructor of modern dance at a children’s ballet school.
