$4,000 To support development of a new interdisciplinary solo-performance based upon the work of the late Croatian performance artist and writer, Željko Zorica. Doyle will collaborate with Zorica’s widow, Ana Zorica, who will guide him through a process of interrogation and investigation of the artist’s works. The work-in-progress performance will be presented in collaboration with the Culture of Change at the University of Zagreb Student Centre and Studio Artless founded by the late artist.

$5,000 To support the collaboration of the chamber ensemble Eighth Blackbird and Amadinda Percussion Group in Budapest, Hungary. Both ensembles will exchange techniques and experience through collaborative performances featuring compositions by Steve Reich, Lukas Ligeti and Máté Bella.

$4,000 To support The Brain Piece, a choreographic/sound installation. The project will include a screening of the film Dance of the Neurons, a series of lectures and workshops in collaboration with the Experimental Space Roxy / NoD in Prague, Czech Republic.

$6,000 To support How to Make Sljivovica, a collaborative theatre piece between ArtSpot Productions and Dah Teatar in Belgrade, Serbia. Directed by Dijana Milosevic (Serbia) and addressing the positive relationship between humans and the soil. The piece will use texts from the poetry of the Serbian poet Biljana Obradovic and will include a recipe for making sljivovica - the local brandy - and its effect on those who drink it. The show will be presented in two villages and in Belgrade, Serbia.

NEIL ROLNICK, NEW YORK, NY

Host Country: Serbia 

$3,500 To support a multifaceted collaboration between Rolnick and the Omen Theater in Belgrade, Serbia that includes participation in the company’s project Three Faces of Mirror, addressing the social and political dynamics of extremism. In addition to conducting a series of workshops on the role of art and artists in promoting peace and socially responsible politics, Rolnick will collect materials for a new musical work.

Theater Mitu

THEATER MITU, NEW YORK, NY

Host Country: Egypt 

$6,000 To support a collaboration between Theater Mitu and artists throughout the Middle East. As You Were is an interdisciplinary documentary performance investigating the effects of war on the lives of the men and women who are deployed in conflict zones. The piece is based on first hand documentary interviews and with ancient mythological and philosophical texts on the subject of war. The project will be presented at Cairo University in Egypt, the American University in Beirut, NYU Abu Dhabi’s Arts Center and in New York City.
